Health Care

Until recently, there were 14 Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) that managed health care locally. Those are being replaced by a single body, Ontario Health, that will have 5 regional divisions. Cancer Care Ontario, eHealth Ontario, Health Quality Ontario, Trillium Gift of Life Network, and about a dozen other bodies will also be merged into Ontario Health.

Ontario Health will oversee about 30-50 local health teams, that will be set up across the province by combination of hospitals and other local agencies. Each responsible for up to 300,000 people, and managed by local institutions or networks that assembled them.

People are still waiting the rest of the details, and it is not yet clear what role local nonprofit health providers are going to play in the new structures.
